Preakness

Now that was one great horse race.  The anticipated match-up between Mine That Bird and Rachel Alexandra materialized, and we can only wonder what the result would have been had the Derby winner not encountered traffic.  Or we can wonder what would have happened if Calvin Borel's assessment that the filly did not like the track was accurate and she ran on a surface she liked.  What is particularly satisfying, however, is that we could...

Preakness

Yesterday's Derby win by 50-1 shot Mine That Bird featured one of the most electrifying moves I have ever seen in a horse race.  He went by the front runners as though they were mired in mud, drawing off to the biggest margin of victory since Assault on his way to the Triple Crown in 1946.

The win left thousands of fans going back to the Daily Racing Form's PPs looking for what they missed.  There wer probably a dozen of other entrant...

Kentucky Derby

Last Saturday's performance by Stardom Bound did not surprise those who have come to expect sharp drop offs by dominant two-year olds when they pass their January 1 birthday.

 

Pioneerof the Nile enters Saturday's San Rafael as my pick to be wearing roses on May's first Saturday.
